January 1, 2015
Hundreds of people gathered on January 1, 2015 to remember Oscar Grant at the Oscar Grant Plaza in Oakland. The first day of this year marks the 6th Anniversary of his killing at Fruitvale Station in Oakland, California.
The afternoon consisted of words and remarks from his family, loved ones, community leaders, clergy, youth activists along with the families of Black and Brown young men and women slain by police officers.
The peaceful vigil lasted 4 hours in recognition of Mike Brown whose body was left in the streets for that amount of time in Ferguson, MO on August 9, 2014.
Dozens of men and women-young and old-who have been murdered by police officers were remembered and honored at today’s celebration.
